John was a guide for Troop 7 Charlottesville to the Dolly Sods in November 2004.  This was my first trip with John.  We were a small group.  The weather was not surprising — low 30’s in the day in mid 20’s in the night with a 20 mph wind from NNW.  John (and Bear) guided us down from fire road 75, across Red Creek,  bush whacked west for about another mile for our campsite.  Everyone went about their business setting up camping and dining for the evening.  We watched the Milky Way until 10:00pm or so and then dived into our tents.  We hiked out via ‘camp apple’.
