It is a long-standing tradition at Tandem to take a day away from campus and enjoy the splendor of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Parents are invited to join us; however, pets and friends, because of logistics, are not.
As the date is October 19th , anticipate dressing in layers that can easily be removed. Hats and zippered windbreakers are ideal. Also, please bring comfortable and sturdy shoes.
The middle school will be hiking 4.8 miles along the White Rock Falls Circuit Trail, located at milepost 19.9 on the Blue Ridge Parkway. The upper school will be hiking the Jone’s Run/Doyle’s River Circuit Hike. All of this exercise warrants lots of liquids and a great lunch with yummy snacks. Water must come on the trip! We stress that no glass containers, knives, or i-pods be brought along. Students are welcome to bring along portable instruments, art supplies, and card games… Please double check that your child has packed their day bag accordingly.
We are trying to provide a full day of hiking at a comfortable pace, so our departure time is very important. We will need to take roll by advisory before leaving campus. Plan on having your child at Tandem by 8:15am to help us in this process.
There is an opportunity for parents to drive. We would like to encourage this to be a thoughtful process that involves car pooling. Most importantly if you are going directly to the hiking sites or know your child cannot attend for some reason, Middle School parents should contact Paola Christy (pchristy@tandemfs.org) or Brett Brunner (bbrunner@tandemfs.org), and Upper School parents should contact Steve Ganong (sganong@tandemfs.org) *no later than October 10th*. This will aid us significantly with our organization concerning attendance and bus rentals, so thanks in advance for doing your part to make this a wonderful day.
Please note: In case of inclement weather we ask that you call the school and dial ext. 500 for an update on any changes.
